Latest version | v0.9.5 |
Super Smash Bros. Crusade, often abbreviated as SSBC or Crusade, is a non-profit crossover action fighting fan game for Windows made with Game Maker 7/8. Originally a project started by Team Phalcon, consisting of Phantom7, Falcon8r, and Dr.MarioX, it is now left to Project Crusade Team. The game was just a fan game until 2012, but since version 0.9 Test, released in 2013, it has been made to more closely resemble the official Super Smash Bros. series.
Compared to the similar fan game Super Smash Flash 2, Crusade has a very large number of fighters (but fewer than Ultimate), can be played by up to six players simultaneously, and runs at 60 fps. On the other hand, there is a big difference in the quality of the fighters.
Gameplay[]
As in the official Super Smash Bros. series, the main objective is to defeat the other players by knocking them out of the arena. As players accumulate damage (represented by a percentage), they fly off the stage when launched by attacks. When players have high amounts of damage (over 100%), they are easy to knock out.
In Super Smash Bros. Crusade, the gameplay is very similar to the official Smash Bros. series, as well as other platform fighters, but it has other elements taken from other traditional fighting games.
Fighters[]
The cast features 77 playable characters (88 if Popo/Nana (Solo), Marth (Spread), Marth (Centered), Mr. Game & Watch (Classic), Lucario (Auraless), Mega Man (Smash), Little Mac (Smash), Shantae's transforms, and Greymon (the Digimon Evolution form of Agumon), are counted as separate). 38 have also appeared in the official Super Smash Bros. series, but due to the timing of their entry, several of them have completely different attributions; for example, the dog from Duck Hunt fights alone. There are two types of characters: starter characters, which are available for use from the beginning, and unlockable characters, which are accessible only after being unlocked.
Stages[]
Super Smash Bros. Crusade features 78 stages to fight on, including both the original ones in this title and those from the official Smash Bros. series. They are broadly classified into Crusade Stage and Classic Stage. Some stages have hazards to add uniqueness and complexity, though these changes can be disabled with the hazard switch for more relaxed battles. As with playable characters, stages are also sorted into starters and unlockables to determinate their availability.
Game Modes[]
Crusade[]
In Crusade, up to 6 players can fight against each other under various rules which can be adjusted at the fighter selection screen. Battles can be played either in free-for-all, or in teams.
Solo[]
Classic[]
In Classic, one or two players fight computer-controlled opponents in a series of matches, while also participating in bonus rounds. The boss of the final stage is not always Master Hand or both him and Crazy Hand together, as each character will face someone else at the end of their route.
Before starting, players can set the number of lives (from 1 to 5), and the difficulty (from Very Easy to Very Hard). If players lose all of their lives, the game is over, and players may choose to continue; however, half of their current scores are deducted.
Score is kept over the course of Classic and is awarded at the end of a match through bonuses. These bonuses are awarded based on damage done and time remaining, with extra bonuses.
Training[]
In Training, players can test out fighters in various stages provided in the game. Pausing will allow access to a menu that allows players to add or remove opposing fighters, generate items, increase or decrease speed, and make other changes around the battle.
Stadium[]
In Stadium, players can take part in various minigames to set new records.
Online[]
In Online, players can connect to the Internet to play against each other. Players choose a fighter in advance and choose whether to create a room where other players can join or join an existing room.
Data[]
In Data, players can register names, check the number of KOs for each fighter, the number of fights for each rule, and when you unlocked hidden fighters and stages.
Options[]
In Options, players can configure the type of air dodge, graphics quality, player tags, controls, and volume of background music and sound effects.
